Woman in desperate need of life-saving transplant

WESTON, Fla. (WSVN) -- A South Florida woman is desperate for a second chance at life, after doctors gave her only months to live if she doesn't get a needed transplant.

Gabe Quiles-Colvin, who needs a bone marrow transplant, has been dealing with a blood disorder almost all her life. She's been able to lead a normal life until recently, when her condition worsened. "I'm susceptible to bruising and hemorrhaging because of a platelet and also with the white blood cell count being low. I could become ill and be susceptible to infection,"said Quiles-Colvin, whose father died of the same condition.

According to the National Marrow Donor Program out of six million potential donors in the registry, only 15 percent are minorities, which would match her race and heritage.

Doctors have spent the last three months searching for a matching donor for Quiles-Colvin.

According to doctors, if she doesn't receive the transplant, she will only have 18 months left of life.
