Boy recovering after immunization injection
MIAMI (WSVN) -- A boy is recovering from a rare reaction after an immunization shot.
According to the law, the shot to prevent mumps, measles, and rubella given to 5-year-old Ayvonte Hall is required of all children entering the school system.
At Jackson Medical Center, doctors determined the vaccination caused Guillaume Berre Syndrome. "It can be extremely mild, it can be extremely severe. In this day and age, we are fortunate because we can have some treatment, which can truncate the disease to a certain degree, but some individuals can go on to become functionally quadriplegic and even unable to breath," said Dr. Robert Shebert.
Hall will remain with leg braces for a period of time but is scheduled to start school in January.
