Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest Boat Parade
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- The 36th annual Seminole Hard Rock Casino Winterfest Boat Parade in Fort Lauderdale will launch tonight on a new parade route.
The theme of this year's parade is "magical movie moments." One of the exhibitors, a 115-foot tourist boat called the Carrie B, will be transformed into a wild wild west saloon. "As you see the boat floating down the Intercoastal, you're going to see not a boat but an old west town floating down the Intercoastal," said Doug Jones, the boat decorator. The sponsor of the barge wants to bring the entire vessel to life with about 40 different scenes set up throughout the boat.
There are one million people expected along the parade route, and two fireworks shows are planned instead of one. The boat parade's new route begins at the New River, heads east through the Intercoastal and ends at lake Santa Barbara. The New River will be closed to spectator watercraft at 2:30 p.m., and the Intercoastal will be closed to spectator watercraft at 5 p.m.
