Authorities ask for public's help in finding hit-and-run suspect
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WSVN) -- Police are asking for the public's help in finding the driver responsible for a hit-and-run accident that seriously injured two people who were riding in a bicycle carriage.
Police say around 1:15 a.m., on Jan. 1, a driver crashed into a rickshaw ride on the East Las Olas bridge and seriously injured two of the three occupants. "The person who did hit that person, you know who you are, you know what you did, and all we are asking for is for you to be honest and own up to what happened. Two ladies were seriously injured as a result of this, and they are innocent bystanders," said Sergeant Frank Sousa of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.
Investigators say the unknown vehicle crashed into the rear of the rickshaw, causing it to overturn and ejecting all three occupants. The hit-and-run driver did not stop and fled the scene in an unknown direction. The rickshaw driver sustained minor injuries and both female passengers sustained serious bodily injuries. Both passengers remain hospitalized at Broward General Medical Center.
If you have any information on this hit-and-run, call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous, and you may be eligible for a reward.
